I know that the idea of getting involved with network marketing sounds great but how does someone get started?

I wondered that myself when I first started in this industry many years ago. Everyone has their own ideas and suggestions. Maybe another way of looking at this would be, what shouldn't I do? This is why I came up with the 3 mistakes that I made when I first started and hopefully you will avoid.

Mistake #1) Jump into a program or opportunity before first researching it. It is so much easier to properly research these so called great ideas now than it has ever been. Find out both the good and bad reviews others have to say about it. Also note that what you read may be good or bad advice. You will have to make that decision yourself, but if you look at several different sites and read the various reviews, I bet your going to have a good feeling about it. Knowledge is key in these decisions and the more you know the better choice you will make.

Mistake #2) Run out and try to tell your friends and family of this fantastic opportunity. Are you nuts? Well that is usually the response I received. Network Marketing is best shared with list of people who are looking for the same or similar opportunities that you are. Your friends and family are usually content with their lifestyle and even though they mean well, they will try hard to kill your spirit and dreams. There is something about people not wanting others close to them to succeed. I heard something that really rings true. If you want to be successful, surround yourself with successful people.

Mistake #3) Buy the products or services first offered. You can spend yourself into severe debt very quickly without proper knowledge and guidance. Ask a lot of questions about the opportunity and ask those individuals who are successful. Spend your hard earned money wisely. I was told that if I spent $500 a week in buying leads, I couldn't help but be successful. Guess what, I borrowed that money, purchased leads and still had nothing to show for it. It didn't take long to realize that I had made a mistake, a big one. I am sure now that the leads I had purchased had been passed around several times and there really wasn't any value left in them any longer. The point that I am making is that knowledge is key and you can't have too much of it.

Learn from leaders and think before jumping into any program or opportunity. There are many good opportunities out there and each one has it's place. Take your time and research. Become a great detective. The rewards are worth the effort. Experience the freedom of becoming you own boss.
